IMPORTANT INFORMATION
START WITH THE PRIEST WHO IS MARRYING YOU. He will instruct you on what form of marriage preparation he wants you to pursue that will best fit your circumstances.
As you will see below there are several different options of programs. An all day Marriage Preparation (Pre-Cana) class. Engaged Encounter weekends, Parish-based programs, One on One, PREPARE and FOCCUS.

One Day Program
Marriage Preparation Conferences(Pre-Cana)
Important Information:
1. Registration is by ADVANCE mail only. Conference space is limited. Register as soon as possible. Acceptance is on a first come first served basis.
2. You can find out the first conference available by calling 472-6759 (24-hour information line). Messages cannot be left on this line.
3. Fee for conference is $75.00. There will be an additional charge if you change the date of your conference, by calling 472-6754, after you received confirmation of chosen date. If you fail to show for your conference FEE IS NON REFUNDABLE!
4. One week prior to your scheduled conference you will be sent a letter, along with the directions.
Filling out Registration Form:
1. Please list work phone number for at least one of you. This will only be used in an emergency.
2. You are asked to give three choices of conference dates. Upon receiving your registration, you will be notified by e-mail or telephone advising you of the conference in which you have been accepted.

Marriage Preparation in the Southern Tier is usually done in the local parish. You should talk to your parish priest at the time when you are making arrangements for your wedding - at least 6 months before the proposed wedding date. At that time the pastor will inform you about available options. Every couple is expected to attend a marriage preparation (also called Pre-Cana) program. Please schedule your Program immediately. It is your responsibility!

If you wish to participate in a program in a particular parish, call the corresponding rectory and register as soon as possible. The programs fill up fast.
On-Going Marriage Preparation Programs
Preparing to Live in Love
(7 week program: 1 night a week for 2 hours)

This is a very effective program that is presented through the witness of a mentor couple who work one-on-one with the engaged couple in the home of the mentors.
Topics include: A Mission to Love - Smart Loving with insights from you Family of Origin - Communicating for Intimacy - Sex as a Sacred Body Language - Sacrament of Matrimony - Forgiveness and Healing and Becoming a Couple.
This is the recommended program for St. James Parish in Johnson City.
Pre-Cana for Second Marriages

Couples who have been previously married need to discuss with their pastor the annulment process. Once the annulment has been secured, marriage preparation can begin as soon as possible.
Marriage preparation for this group is tailored to the couple's individual needs. Topics may include those listed in Preparing to Live in Love as well as discussions about step-families, finances, planning for the future, etc. This is a mentor couple program with the engaged couple working one-on-one with the mentor couple.

Invitation to a Passionate Marriage

Is a marriage preparation program that is available in both Spanish and English. It is an 8 hour program that may be done in a single day or divided into two consecutive days.
